Concrete and Formwork

We employed Scott Round from Empire Concrete Melbourne to do the concrete associated with our recent renovation. We found him to be most professional in all aspects of his work. His level of workmanship is of an extremely high standard. He is reliable, punctual and his estimation of all costs were very accurate. If difficulty arises he is a great problem solver.

I recently built a new home which did not have driveways and pathways included in the building contract because the builder suggested that I should contract someone directly to keep costs down – otherwise the builders margin would be put on top of the concreting quotation. This seemed easy enough during the building contract phase and negotiation, but I soon came to realise that this was going to be easier said than done during the building process.

My land is on a steep gradient which made the driveway complicated, and the council also mandated a comprehensive storm water retention system which had to go through the driveways and pathways. I am not a builder, concreter or plumber and I had difficulty comprehending and interpreting what needed to be done as the plans changed along the way. All of these contractors needed to work together and perform tasks at certain times, which meant someone that someone knowledgeable needed to co-ordinate them. I needed someone to take that responsibility away from me and get the job done, and I engaged Empire Concrete for this task.

Empire acted as the conduit between the plumbers, builders, contractors and the council to co-ordinate tasks and schedule them appropriately. Empire was also able to repair damage to council property (footpaths) caused during construction. They took care of obtaining the necessary permits and implementing traffic controls. Empire also made sure that the gradient of the driveway was gradual enough to cater for the (low) ride height of my cars, whilst still accommodating for the plethora of drainage and inspection pits under and within the driveway as required by council.

The finished product surpassed any expectations that we originally had. We love their design of the steps at the front of our home, and the overall polished finish of the driveway and pathways around the property provide a sophisticated aesthetic.
